This is a GREAT remake of the Gameboy Color Original March 16, 2010 L. Gildart (Somerville, MA USA) 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
I bought both Heart Gold and Soul Silver for my nine-year-old boy. I have lupus with photosensitivity and don't get to spend a lot of time outside with him, and I don't like to just plug him into a video game, so I compromise by playing video games with him. Those games have to be interactive and interesting enough to not drive me crazy. The ds pokemon games take care of both those concerns.
He chose Soul Silver for his game, so this one is mine. It's been years since I looked at the old Gameboy Color games, but this one seems to be just like the old one, except for the enhancements that came along with the double screen and the touch pad. The music includes more recent themes as well, but it makes me happy to hear the older ones.
My son absolutely loves the pokewalker. I love the idea of the pokewalker, but I haven't used mine, yet. We have used his to take his pokemon down to the park to take advantage of the not-too-bright sunlight.
The figurine is cute, but Ho-Oh is not as well-crafted as Lugia. Lugia is magnificent and is rendered consistently with the better graphic capabiiities of later games. Ho-Oh looks like he's straight off the Gameboy Advance. At best. I'm still very happy with the purchase, though.
pokemon heart gold review March 25, 2010 E. Wilton (on air) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
amazing, and quite possibly the best game ever made on DS. i was dissapointed with pokemon diamond but with this game i can relive the past, and go for walks with my pokemon.
Gameplay: the same as all handheld pokemon RPG games. collect pokemon, battle, train.
Sound: remade classic tunes, along with stepping sound affects. listen to the stream as you fish! hear the grass rustle as you catch wild pokemon, or listen to the radio. faultless.
graphics: Updated graphics are awesome! apart from some amazing scenes in the game, they are very similar to pokemon diamond.
overall: A great place to start if you are new to the franchise and a great remake, it like im meeting an old friend! Here i come Houou/Ho-oh!
oh yes... and im 18, i still love pokemon and always will! *thumbs up*
but ninty, for lugia's sake, please bring us an rpg on wii! or at least PBR in rpg mode!
Not your average Pokemon game March 31, 2010 M. Bearden (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Both Heart Gold & Soul Silver come with a poke-pedometer. Really, really nice. My son & some of his friends (ages are from 15-17)wear their poke-pedometers even in school & go out & play/walk/etc. more because there are rewards that you get in-game from all that walking.
I wish more games would encourage kids to not just sit & play but also get out & be active so they can get rewards when they do sit down to play.
This isn't Fire Red or Leaf Green all over again March 24, 2010 Lee Stricklin (Midwest) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I can honestly say that in my 18+ years of gaming across many platforms, PCs, consoles, and handhelds, that this is one of the best games I ever played. I consider myself a gamer and I play games across almost every platform ever made whether they're E rated, AO rated, free or GPL, or retail and I can honestly say that this remake of a decade old classic that many of us have fond memories of is done right and a true upgrade over the original. Like many gamers I was disappointed right around the time Ruby/Sapphire came around and was seriously frustrated at how bad Fire Red/Leaf Green was done. As result of Fire Red/Leaf Green, I skipped Diamond/Pearl and thought that I had enough Pokemon for a while. After seeing footage of this game in action and listening to the soundtrack as it was ripped off and put on YouTube, I became confident that GameFreak has indeed redeemed themselves and just like ten years ago, decided I was going to get BOTH games and then decided to place preorders. Everything that was cool ten years ago has remained, but has been subtly expanded upon and slightly altered to give maximum playability to the game. The least subtle things thrown in were the battle frontier, wi fi, and new region (that also has a safari zone this time around!). The new soundtrack is as faithful as it possibly can be given the new unique look of each town (Goldenrod's new track actually suits this game well in spite sounding drastically different) and an 8 bit rendition (which sounds almost identical to what was on the Gameboy Color) of it is available to be unlocked, while the graphics are among some of the prettiest I've seen on any system thanks to it's use of both 2D and 3D as well as amazing art style. The gameplay has been refined and made more interesting since 2000 with each pokemon being truly unique thanks to GameFreak's version of perks and the addition of a ton more items that you can equip them with. Whether your a veteran that got turned off by generation 3, a series newcomer, or just a Pokemon lover, I HIGHLY recommend that you buy this. You will love this game.
Pokemon HeartGold March 24, 2010 Gloria A. Matulevich (Glen Burnie, MD) These are excellant games which you have to think about what you are doing. I would recommend them for kids depending on maturity 5 and up.
